Happy Thanksgiving to our deployed troops

I want to thank all our men and women that are spending this Thanksgiving away from their family and friends protecting our freedoms and creating a more peaceful world.

“Every Soldier will get a good Thanksgiving dinner based upon patrol schedule,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Dailey, a Palmerton, Pa., native, who serves as the senior enlisted leader for the 3rd BCT, 4th Inf. Div. “It will be a continuous operation throughout the day.”

But turkey is not the only traditional food being served to the troops this holiday season. Sweet potato pie, apple cobbler and Baskin Robin’s ice cream are other treats to accompany the feast.

The IP and Soldiers from Company A, 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, attached to 4th BCT, 10th Mtn. Div., met in the morning to load two trucks: one with humanitarian-aid packages and the other with bottled water.

They headed to one of the poorest areas of the 9 Nissan District to hand out the goods. Each package contained rice, sugar and canned-food items packed in yellow knapsacks.

Iraqi soldiers help California wildfire victims

A group of Iraqi Soldiers stepped up to help California residents victimized by recent wildfires raging throughout the state. Iraqi Army Col. Abbas Fadhil, Besmaya Range Complex commander, and his team of “Abbas’ Eagles” raised $500 for wildfire relief.

Two boys join hands in a symbol of good will and hope for a new era in the nation of Iraq.



Children of southern Baghdad’s Doura community recently competed in a contest to indulge a budding sense of cultural pride and experiment with a newfound freedom of speech.

“The children were very proud,” stated Amir Salman, a councilmember of the Doura Neighborhood Council, who helped organize the event. “They have been telling all of their friends how much fun they had participating.”

Each will contain trials and deployments, and tales from lands yet to be seen. However, the common theme in each will be their selfless service and their universal commitment."

Petrulis' teammates took advantage of a training opportunity to time the "fireball" detonation at a safe distance to make the re-enlistment a more memorable event for their comrade. Tyler and Petrulis are assigned to the 755th Air Expeditionary Group Explosive Ordnance Disposal Operating Location.

Youngsters cry out with their hands in the air trying to get the teacher’s attention. One is selected and he marches up to the blackboard to recite the day’s lesson written there. When he finishes, the teacher praises him and he returns to his desk, a grin on his face.
School is back in session here in Sadr City, and the students couldn’t be happier.

Clean water for first time in Iraq

“Before this system, some people had no water besides the dirty canal water,” said a local Sheikh Kagoob Joad al-Merce. “Now many of those people have clean drinking water for the first time in their lives.”

“This is our first park in Qahira. We never had one before,” said Mohamed Madaloom, the Qahira Neighborhood Assistance Council chairman.

The park has a small pond with a generator-run fountain with a flock of geese as well as benches, solar lights, several swings, slides and seesaws. There is also a tiled path lined with flowers and new grass has been planted. A gardener and a security guard, he added, will be hired.
